Jon Fulwood on the famous English gritstone of the Peak District, and a very hard small route/high boulder problem.

The reason I was in the Peak yesterday was that I attended Sheffield Adventure Film Festival, where I took part in the Adventure Shot photo competition, judged by (among others), Ian Parnell, one of the best UK climbers and photographers. Five of us had to present a video slideshow of our images, and I am very glad to report that mine, Why do we climb?, was awarded the first prize! If you have 4 minutes to lose, I'd love to know what you think of it.

  • Congratulations Alex!

  • Thanks! You probably noticed that you are in the video a couple of times :)

  • Because it's there, you cannot be wrong with this statement.
Very nice compilation and congratulation for the first prize in the competition.
You raised the questions and I can only answer for myself: "It's for the views, the wilderness, the power, the freedom, the brotherhood, but most of all probably just for myself, to escape from the daily routine.
