My very first experience of backcountry skiing, an attempt at salvaging the day after bad conditions shattered our hopes of alpine climbing. After struggling upwards for maybe 45 minutes, my skins finally decided not to stick anymore and, with no way to go up, we skied down back to the Vallee Blanche.
